#Topics
A topic is a subject marker. Add #bellmodem or #q3review to a task or a set of
meeting minutes, and mizuiro links that record to a topic page for that label. Anyone
who needs to find everything related to that subject later can browse it from
Sidebar → Topics.
Topics are freeform - you make them up as you go, rather than choosing from a predefined list. That’s intentional. The labels that matter for your team are often ones you couldn’t have predicted when you set the system up.
Topics are always available - they’re part of the core platform and don’t need to be enabled separately.
NoteThe marker is still the#symbol, the way you’d write a tag anywhere. We call the feature “Topics” rather than “hashtags” because that’s what it’s for: grouping records by subject, not chasing a trend.
Type # followed by a word (letters, numbers, and underscores - no spaces) anywhere in a
field that supports it. mizuiro picks it up when you save and links it to the topic.
You can use as many topics as you need in a single record. They don’t have to be established in advance.
Some examples of how teams use them:
#bellmodemto group everything related to a long-running client issue.#q3reviewacross the tasks you’re tracking for an end-of-quarter process.#safetyweekto collect everything tied to a specific initiative.#floorrenovationfor a facility project that keeps generating follow-ups.
Sidebar → Topics shows a tag cloud of every topic currently in use across your company, sized by frequency. Below it is a ranked list of the most-used topics. Click any one to see the records that use it, filtered to the ones you can normally see.
The per-topic page is most useful when the same subject has come up in many records over time - it becomes a trail of everything that’s happened around that subject without you having to search for it.
Search is for finding a specific record you know exists. Topics are for browsing a subject across many records over time. Both are useful, and they complement each other.
If you remember part of the title, use search. If you remember the subject but not the specific record, try a topic.
Are topics case-sensitive?
No. #BellModem and #bellmodem are the same topic. mizuiro stores everything in lowercase.
Can I use spaces in a topic?
No. Topics can’t contain spaces - use underscores instead: #safety_week rather than
#safety week. The second form would be read as #safety followed by plain text.
What if I remove a topic from a record?
The topic is removed from that record’s count as soon as you save. If nothing else uses it, it disappears from the Topics page on its own.
Can I delete a topic entirely?
There’s no delete action for topics. They exist as long as at least one record references them. Remove the topic from everything that uses it and it disappears from the Topics page on its own.
Can I see topic trends on my dashboard?
Yes, if the Reports module is enabled. It includes a Tag Cloud widget you can add to your dashboard from the widget gallery.
Which fields support topics?
Today, topics are picked up in tasks (title and detail), task check-in notes, and meeting
minutes. Type a #topic in one of those and it lands on the Topics page. Other fields let
you type a #topic as a link, but only these feed the Topics trends - the formatting hint
below a field tells you which is which. See formatting text.
