Manager handoff

Every mizuiro company has one primary manager account. That account has full administrative control - modules, settings, billing, and everything else. This page covers what happens when that needs to change.

The role of observers

Observers are read-only manager accounts. They can see everything a manager sees but can’t create, edit, or delete anything. They’re the right fit for an HR advisor, a business owner who isn’t the day-to-day manager, or an auditor who needs the full picture.

Observers matter here because they’re the handoff path. When the manager role needs to move to someone new, that person needs to be an active observer first.

To add an observer, go to Sidebar - People - Add employee and set their tier to Observer. They’ll receive an invitation and set up their account the same way any other team member would.

When the manager wants to hand over

If the current manager is leaving on good terms and wants to transfer control voluntarily, they can do it directly from Settings - Observers. Selecting an observer and confirming the transfer hands the manager role to that person immediately.

A few things happen at the moment of transfer:

  • The observer becomes the new primary manager with full access.
  • The previous manager’s account is terminated and they’re logged out of all active sessions immediately.
  • The transfer is logged to the company audit trail.
Warning
This is immediate and irreversible. Once the transfer is confirmed, the previous manager loses access with no grace period. Make sure the incoming manager is ready to take over before confirming.

When the manager is gone

If the manager has left the organization and there’s no one with full access to initiate a transfer, an observer can request a takeover from Settings - Request Takeover. This submits a request to the mizuiro team for review.

The review process exists for good reason - it’s the same control that prevents someone from simply claiming a company account. The mizuiro team will verify the request before approving it. Once approved, the requesting observer is promoted to manager and full access is restored.

Note
If your company has no observers and the manager is unreachable, contact mizuiro support. Recovery in this situation takes longer because there’s no existing account to promote - the process involves identity verification before any access is granted.

Planning ahead

The simplest way to avoid a difficult recovery situation is to have at least one observer on your account at all times. An observer costs nothing extra, doesn’t count toward your employee cap, and means that if something unexpected happens there’s always a straightforward path to restore access.
