#Hashtags

What hashtags are

A hashtag is a topic marker. Add #bellmodem or #q3review to a task title or detail, and mizuiro links that task to a topic page for that label. Anyone who needs to find everything related to that subject later can browse it from Sidebar → Hashtags.

Hashtags are freeform - you make them up as you go, rather than choosing from a predefined list. That’s intentional. The labels that matter for your team are often ones you couldn’t have predicted when you set the system up.

Hashtags are always available - they’re part of the core platform and don’t need to be enabled separately.

How to use them

Type # followed by a word (letters, numbers, and underscores - no spaces) anywhere in a task title or detail field. mizuiro picks it up when you save and links it to the topic.

You can use as many hashtags as you need in a single record. They don’t have to be established in advance.

Some examples of how teams use them:

  • #bellmodem to group everything related to a long-running client issue.
  • #q3review across the tasks you’re tracking for an end-of-quarter process.
  • #safetyweek to collect everything tied to a specific initiative.
  • #floorrenovation for a facility project that keeps generating follow-ups.

Finding things by hashtag

Sidebar → Hashtags shows a tag cloud of every hashtag currently in use across your company, sized by frequency. Below it is a ranked list of the most-used tags. Click any tag to see the tasks that use it, filtered to the ones you can normally see.

The per-tag page is most useful when the same topic has come up in many tasks over time - it becomes a trail of everything that’s happened around that subject without you having to search for it.

Search is for finding a specific record you know exists. Hashtags are for browsing a topic across many records over time. Both are useful, and they complement each other.

If you remember part of the title, use search. If you remember the subject but not the specific task, try a hashtag.

FAQ

Are hashtags case-sensitive?

No. #BellModem and #bellmodem are the same tag. mizuiro stores everything in lowercase.

Can I use spaces in a hashtag?

No. Hashtags can’t contain spaces - use underscores instead: #safety_week rather than #safety week. The second form would be read as #safety followed by plain text.

What if I remove a hashtag from a task?

The tag is removed from that task’s count as soon as you save. If no other tasks use it, it disappears from the trends page on its own.

Can I delete a hashtag entirely?

There’s no delete action for hashtags. They exist as long as at least one task references them. Remove the tag from all tasks that use it and it disappears from the trends page on its own.

Can I see hashtag trends on my dashboard?

Yes, if the Reports module is enabled. It includes a Hashtag Tag Cloud widget you can add to your dashboard from the widget gallery.

Do hashtags work in other modules besides Tasks?

Currently hashtags are supported in task titles and task update notes. Other modules may be added in a future update.
